Not all of Woods's inventions involved trains or telegraphs. In 1890 he invented
an electrically heated egg incubator, which worked by means of a thermostatic
control similar to the ones currently found in buildings. Woods continued to invent
for the remainder of his life. In his 50s he began to suffer from poor health; he was
only 53 when he died in Harlem Hospital in New York on January 30, 1910.
